Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
A The "cracking" or "popping" sounds heard during a chiropractic adjustment are typically caused by a release of gas bubbles in the joints and a space being created. This phenomenon is known as cavitation.
Here's how it works:
1. Synovial Fluid: Joints are filled with a lubricating fluid called synovial fluid, which helps reduce friction and allows smooth movement.
2. Pressure Change: When a chiropractor applies a controlled, quick force (manipulation) to a joint, it causes a rapid change in pressure within the joint capsule.
3. Gas Bubbles: This pressure change causes the dissolved gases (mainly nitrogen) in the synovial fluid to form bubbles. When these bubbles "pop" or collapse, the sound is produced.
The cracking sound is harmless and typically doesn't signify anything negative. It's just a byproduct of the process. It is often accompanied by relief in tension, improved movement, and a feeling of looseness or alignment.
Not all adjustments produce a cracking sound, and the sound itself isn't an indication of whether the adjustment was effective or not. Some patients may not hear any noise, but still experience significant benefits from the treatment.

A subluxation is misalignment of a joint, where the bones are not in their normal position but are not completely dislocated either. This can cause pain, discomfort, and limited movement in the affected area. Subluxations can happen in various parts of the body, including the spine, and they may affect the nervous system if the misalignment interferes with nerve function.
